Step back in time and experience this 150 year old Historic Plantation
Guesthouse, where life is slow-paced and simple. Whatever modern
comforts you might give up are exchanged for an opportunity to live
in an authentic, tropical environment with a low impact on mother
nature. The magic and mystery of the Balenbouche Estate has captured
the hearts of many travelers who seek a more genuine experience.
It is located on the quiet south-western coast of St. Lucia and
set within 70 acres of farmland and unspoiled nature. The landscape
is stunning and varied. Stroll through tropical gardens, explore
undisturbed ruins of the 18th century sugar mill and enjoy the secluded
beaches that adjoin the property. A retreat or vacation at Balenbouche
Estate is a rejuvenating experience for mind, body and soul.
The guest cottages blend into the historical, natural environment
and capture a simple tropical feel. Here the indoor and outdoor
spaces merge. Windows are open to the sounds of birds, frogs and
insects. Some of the showers open to the sky. At Balenbouche you
live with the elements. Here you truly feel embraced by beauty,
not only that of nature, but also of historic architecture and aesthetic
detail.
Guests will enjoy the locally grown organic foods for which Balenbouche
is known. Meals are prepared with love and beauty - ingredients
as essential as the fare at each memorable meal. Dishes are inspired
by Creole, Asian and European cuisine. The superb meals are served
on the verandah accompanied by beautiful floral arrangements of
tropical flowers.
The Balenbouche Estate is owned and managed by Uta Lawaetz and her
two daughters, who over many years have transformed what was once
a struggling farm into a place of beauty, tranquility and environmental
sustainability. It is a designated St. Lucia Heritage Site and receives
regular visits from tourists, researchers, artists and the local
community.
