Lucia Day Trips - Southern Departure |

Gros
Piton Climb:
UNESCO World Heritage Site |
 |
| This
approximately four hour round trip nature
trail takes you 2620 ft above sea level to the top of the
taller of St. Lucia’s famous twin peaks. A recently declared
UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Pitons are undoubtedly St.
Lucia’s most recognized feature. The trail begins in the village
of Fond Gens Libre, which means “Village of the Free People”.
You will see Brigand sites including caves, tunnels and look outs.
As you make your way to the summit you will experience a breathtaking,
panoramic view of the Choiseul village, Petit Piton, and the entire
south-western part of the island. On a clear day you can even see
neighboring islands. After you descend and enjoy a well-earned,
delicious lunch you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the mineral-rich
water of the celebrated Piton Falls. |
| |
| The
Enbas Saut Falls Trail: |
 |
| A
hike in the beautiful rainforest is essential to any trip to St.
Lucia, as it is one of the islands greatest natural assets! This
remote, wild and unbelievably scenic four
mile loop trail takes you deep into the Central
Rainforest Reserve. You will explore rainforest, cloud forest
and elfin woodlands. Look and listen for the numerous birds that
inhabit the forest. Enbas Saut means “below the falls”
and the trail ends at two cascading waterfalls
with pools at the head of the Troumasse River. After a cool dip
you will loop back up another trail which finishes just up the road
from where you began. As you enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in
the fishing village of Soufriere the
group can choose how to spend the afternoon. Options include touring
the town and shopping for souvenirs,
visiting a natural hot spring, walking around Botanical Gardens
and viewing the Sulphur Springs drive
in volcano, or relaxing
on the beach. |

| Rainforest
Waterfall Hike and Beach Escape: |
 |
| Walk
through the lush rainforest for just over an hour
each way on this St. Lucia Rainforest Hike. The trail gradually
leads deep into the rainforest and splits into two paths; one leading
up to Mount Grand Magasin, the other ending at the Saltibus
Falls, a stunning series of waterfalls
and a deep, cool river pools that offer welcome refreshment. These
trails are maintained by the Saltibus tour guide Association in
collaboration with the St. Lucia Forestry Department. The group
can choose to hike one or both of these trails. You will then enjoy
a well-earned lunch and spend the afternoon on the beautiful and
very calm beach in Laborie, a small
fishing village, where there is nice snorkeling
and plenty of shade. Seamoss, local seaweed used to make a delicately
spiced drink renowned for its nutritious and energy-giving properties,
is farmed here. Yoga groups often plan to hold a sunset session
on the beach here before returning to their hotel. |

| Mamiku
Gardens and Maria Island Tour: |
 |
You
group will enjoy a scenic drive up to the Mamiku
Estate, a plantation producing bananas, tropical fruits and
flowers. The estate features 12 acres of landscaped gardens and
woodlands, a bush medicine garden, endangered St. Lucia trees and
an archaeological site where 18th century pottery has been found.
The gardens contain exotic plants and tropical flowers. A mouth-watering
local lunch will be served. The group will then enjoy the experience
of being ferried in a typical St. Lucian fishing canoe to Maria
Island Major. A guide from the St. Lucia National Trust will take
you on a walk around the island; tell you about the flora, fauna
and the care with which the National Trust nurtures these islands.
You will see numerous lizards, geckos and birds. After the walk
you will have the opportunity to swim and
snorkel in the crystal clear waters surrounding Maria Island.
Note--access to the interior of the island is restricted between
May and September when the birds are nesting. |

| Boat
Trip: |
 |
| Spend
the day onboard a sailboat or cruise the coast in a speed boat either
way you are sure to enjoy a day on the calm, Caribbean Sea. There
are a number of different options and depending on your tastes we
will recommend the best one for your group. Seeing St. Lucia from
the water is a truly memorable experience. If you’re lucky,
the boat may even be accompanied by playful dolphins as you pass
coastal fishing villages, enjoying fantastic views of the rainforest
and the magnificent Pitons jutting out of the calm Caribbean Sea.
One option includes stopping at a remote beach for a BBQ and snorkeling,
another takes you to the duty-free shopping plaza in the north while
another pulls into the picturesque Marigot Bay for lunch and a swim.
An onshore excursion to an old plantation or a waterfall hike can
also be part of your unique day itinerary. |
| |
| Soufriere
and Choiseul Day Trip: |
 |
| Enjoy
many sites including the Diamond Botanical
Gardens, Mineral Baths and Waterfall where you will explore
the trails within the manicured gardens containing dozens of labeled
tropical species. The thermal mineral baths here are built on the
site of the original facilities commissioned by Louis XIV in 1784.
The warm waters are said to cure ailments such as rheumatism and
arthritis. After a soak, it is onto Soufriere
for lunch then a visit to the Sulphur Springs.
See the steaming, bubbling pools of
sulphur-dense water and rocks tinged green and yellow. Stop at the
Torailee Waterfall that gushes 50 feet
over a cliff side and pools in a charming landscaped garden. Follow
the nature trails and walkways through the lush greenery. Take a
dip in under the falls before heading to the village of Choiseul
known for its traditional arts and crafts.
Shop at the craft center; relax by the river or at the beach. |

| Round
the Island Tour: |
 |
| This
day trip will provide you with the opportunity to see much of the
island aboard a comfortable vehicle. Stopping often for photos along
the way, the tour heads northwest, passing country
villages, through the Roseau Valley banana
plantation, on to Marigot Bay’s
fantastic views, through the bustling capital of Castries
and then into Rodney Bay where the
group will have lunch. This area is more developed and quite different
from the south of the island. Spend the afternoon at Pigeon
Island National Park where you will find secluded beaches,
stunning views, historic ruins and an old fort. At the Museum
& Interpretive Centre learn about the island’s
history- from the Carib Indian settlers to the island’s role
in the French/British battles during colonization. After a couple
hours of relaxing and exploring you will head back south but this
time along the east coast road, providing different views and scenery.

| |
| Whale
and Dolphin Watching: |
 |
| This
is an exhilarating experience not to be missed! With over 20 species
regularly encountered throughout the year, and a reported 85% rate
of sightings on these trips, you have a great chance of spotting
something! Several of different species of whales and dolphins live
in these waters. Some are residents while others are just passing
through. You may see sperm whales, humpbacks, orcas, pilots, spotted
dolphins, spinners, bottlenose, or even the hard to see beaked whale.
Relax onboard a comfortable boat keeping your eyes peeled for these
magnificent creatures. The site of them in their natural habitat
whether they be feeding, mating or frolicking is a magical and unforgettable
experience. Enjoy a delicious lunch at and spend the afternoon relaxing
on the beach or snorkeling above a shallow reef. This activity ensures
that these animals remain an economic resource to the region and
therefore helps to protect them. |
